everyone can do this with stuff that is typically already available in most households
Ingredients
- 800g can of Pelati
- 2 tablespoons of tomato puree
- Onion
- clove of garlic
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ground pepper
- Ground pimento dioica (also called allspice, jamaica pepper, clove pepper)
- dried Italian herbs
- some leaves of Basil
- Parmesan
Instructions
- cut the onions into small cubes and press the garlic clove. Cut the basil into strips.
- Heat olive oil in a pan and sauté the onions. Add the pressed garlic and sauté until they are slightly brownish
- Add the pelati (with sauce), tomato puree, dried herbs, 1 teaspoon salt, ground pepper and two pinches of Allspice , Basiland bring to the boil. Crush the pelati with a wooden spoon.
- Cover and simmer for 20 minutes (better 30-40 minutes better) at low to medium heat. If the sauce is too thin, add some tomato puree and/or pour off excess liquid through a large sieve.
- Serve with grated Parmesan cheese.
